California Dollars for Scholars asks for your support in our A Dollar A Day In May campaign, because college doesn't happen by chance. Dollars for Scholars is investing in the future for all of us, through students like Linda and Luis:

Linda V.
Linda is attending a four-year state university, in large part due to the scholarship she received from her local Dollars for Scholars chapter. She is the first generation in her family to attend college, and plans to become a physician and help those with little or no financial ability to access quality health care. "I come from a community where going to college is not what many people choose. It's a big step for me, but I am determined to succeed," Linda says. "My mother is my inspiration; a single parent who worked hard to support her children, she always encouraged me to follow my dreams and never give up."

Luis G.
Luis dreams of becoming a biochemist. "Ever since I can remember, my parents worked minimum-paying jobs so that my brothers and I could have the opportunity they didn't have, which is to study," he says. "Seeing how my parents struggled without an education, I knew that I had to do well in school to live a better life. Thanks to my Dollars for Scholars scholarship, I am one step closer to my goal."

There are many simple yet effective ways to help students like Linda and Luis. Here are just a few ways you can make higher education more accessible:

• Spread the Word! Tell your friends, family and co-workers about Dollars for Scholars and the opportunity A Dollar A Day In May provides for everyone to help deserving students realize their higher education dreams.
   
• Ask your employer to help you collect $1 a day from each employee during the month of May.
   
• Visit small businesses, churches, synagogues, or service clubs with which you are involved, and ask for their participation in the Dollar A Day In May campaign.
   
• Most Importantly - Make a tax deductible contribution of $31 or more to a Dollars for Scholars region or chapter to support our efforts!
